Council reporting

The local press’ role is to hold council to account.

Council reporting includes:

  • Attending council meetings
  • Investigating through FOI (freedom of information) requests
  • Democracy sites (my society) to find issues
  • Local people’s campaigns and complaints
  • Press releases, from council and political parties

As a reporter, it is important to dig deep for the truth on what the council are actually doing. Information from sources such as press releases are likely to hide the issues they face.
