A fire that broke out in a pub, in Huddersfield, is now under investigation due to a suspected arson.
The Woolpack pub, in Deighton Road faced the fire on Saturday at 12.30am. This wasn’t the first time the pub has been attacked, they have also been victims of vandalism in the past.
No one was at the pub when the fire broke out. The owner is believed to have been in London at the time.
Huddersfield Fire Station’s Watch Commander, Darren Bagley, said he suspects intruders probably got upstairs and set fire to one of the mattresses lying around. The mattresses were there for builders to sleep on during weekdays, as they were renovating the building.
The fire had got into the roof, making it difficult for the fire fighters. Mr Bagley said: “It took about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control and then two hours to expose all the hotspots and extinguish them”.
